With the support of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in China, the Center for Chinese and Greek Civilization held the 1st Graduate Students' Forum on Chinese and Greek Civilizations at Southwest University in Chongqing on May 10. The Ambassador of Greece to China Evgenios Kalpyris gave a keynote speech at the forum, highlighting the importance of the joint study of the two civilizations and the key role reserved by the Greek and the Chinese languages in it.
The forum brought together graduate students and scholars to improve the understanding between the two ancient civilizations.
Ambassador Kalpyris said: "The promotion of dialogue between civilizations requires, among many other prerequisites, the study of the Greek and Chinese global civilizations, as they have developed and interacted over time until today. I would suggest that this work be done on a synthesis rather than on a comparison basis. The interaction between the Greek and the Chinese civilization is profound and needs to be studied on a new basis. In doing so, I believe that scientific research should adopt a new, fresh, and critical approach," he said.
